The first ceremony, taking place on 14th July, will be the traditional ceremony called the "kwanjula." This directly translates to "introduction."
In this ceremony, the bride introduces her betrothed to her extended family. The groom is accompanied by an entourage of his family and friends. A cultural exchange ensues between the two sides, accompanied by much fun fare, music, dancing (of the bride's party only) and gift exchange. It is finalised when the girl's parents agree to the union and formally accept the man into the family, marked by a cultural ceremony.
